Australia-Skilled Occupations List (SOL)

You must nominate an occupation from the Skilled Occupations List (SOL) if you are applying for an Independent or Family Sponsored Points Tested visa or a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) – Graduate Work Stream.

Applicants who require a skills assessment as part of their visa application must contact a relevant assessing authority directly to obtain a skills assessment. The assessing authority will provide all necessary application forms and associated information relating to the assessment.

There will be a charge by the assessing authorities for the assessment. After a review by the Department of Education and Training, a new SOL was introduced on 1 July 2016 with several changes to the occupations. Occupations being added to the SOL from 1 July 2016 were:

• Orthotist or Prosthetist (ANZSCO 251912)
• Audiologist (ANZSCO 252711).

Occupations removed from the SOL on 1 July 2016 were:

• Mining Engineer (Excluding Petroleum) (ANZSCO 233611)
• Petroleum Engineer (ANZSCO 233612)
• Metallurgist (ANZSCO 234912)
• Environmental Health Officer (ANZSCO 251311)
• Occupational Health and Safety Adviser (ANZSCO 251312)
• Dental Hygienist (ANZSCO 411211)
• Dental Prosthetist (ANZSCO 411212)
• Dental Technician (ANZSCO 411213)
• Dental Therapist (ANZSCO 411214).

The review of the SOL did not impact the composition of the Consolidated Sponsored Occupations List (CSOL). As part of the annual SOL review, several occupations are ‘flagged’ for possible removal in the future. Generally, occupations are flagged when there is emerging evidence of excess supply in the labour market.

However, consult with the immigration expert at IRA Immigration or DIBP (Department of Immigration and Border Protection) for the latest status before choosing and applying under any of the below-listed occupations.
