What all you can do with a UK Marriage Visa-

  • In the UK, if you want to get married or have a civil partnership within six months of your arrival, you need to do it at a place that's licensed for these ceremonies. This means you must choose a venue that is legally allowed to host weddings and civil partnerships.
  • If you're just passing through the UK on your way to another country, these rules don't apply to you. They are mainly for those who plan to get married or have a civil partnership in the UK.

  • You can't extend your visa or switch to another type of visa.
  • You can't work in the UK, except for certain activities related to your work or business overseas, like attending meetings.

What is the application process for applying for a UK Marriage Visa?

The application process for a UK Marriage Visa involves several steps:

  • As part of the application process, you'll need to schedule an appointment at a visa application center to confirm your identity and submit your documents.
  • Make sure to factor in time for attending your appointment, as the visa application center might be located in another country.
  • During your appointment, they'll take your fingerprints and a photo (this is called 'biometric information').
  • After the appointment, you'll be informed once a decision has been made about your visa.
  • Be aware that the visa application center may retain your passport and documents while they process your application.
  • The earliest you can apply for the visa is 3 months before your planned travel date.
  • After applying online and completing the identity verification and document submission, you can generally expect a decision on your visa within 3 weeks.

Must attach Supporting Documentation

You need to have a valid passport that covers your entire stay in the UK and has an empty page for your visa. To support your application, you can provide the following:

  • Information about the marriage or civil partnership, along with evidence that you've made payments for some of its expenses.
  • Proof that you intend to get married in the UK, such as a booking confirmation or emails exchanged between you and the venue.
  • If you have been married before and want to marry again or enter into a civil partnership, you need to provide proof that you are legally free to do so. The evidence you can use includes a "decree absolute," which is a legal document showing the finalization of your previous divorce, or a death certificate of your previous partner, if applicable.
