Canada announces easing of border restrictions for fully vaccinated travellers

Just like many other countries Canada has also closed its borders as a safety measure due to the pandemic. The Government of Canada is easing the restrictions slowly after taking into account the pandemic condition in the country.

The COVID-19 cases are steadily declining in Canada and also the vaccination drive has ensured that many Canadian citizens and residents are vaccinated. So, the Canadian government is now thinking of easing the restrictions to a certain extent and intends to open the borders slowly.

The first step that the Canadian Government plans to take is to open the borders for fully vaccinated American citizens and permanent residents who are currently in the USA from August 9th 2021. These people have to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before entering Canada for non-essential travel.

From August 9th 2021 international flight with passengers will be allowed to land at 5 additional Canadian Airports and these are:

• Halifax Stanfield International Airport;
• Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport;
• Ottawa Macdonald–Cartier International Airport;
• Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport; and
• Edmonton International Airport

From September 7th 2021 Government of Canada intends to open the Canadian borders for all fully vaccinated travellers. These travellers must have completed the vaccination with a vaccine that has been approved by the Government of Canada and they have to be vaccinated at least 14 days prior to entering Canada. Any other safety measures that are put by the Canadian authorities will have to be followed diligently by the travellers.

It is mandatory for all the travellers to make use of the ArriveCAN app or web portal to submit their travel information. The testing quarantine norms that have been laid down for travellers by the Government of Canada will have to be followed by the traveller strictly. The government may make changes in these norms depending on the pandemic situation.

These are the current plans that are laid down by the Government of Canada but it must be noted that the Government of Canada may make sudden changes in the same depending on the pandemic situation in August and September 2021.
