Australia is a country which has a requirement for skilled professionals. It has come up with different visa categories for the skilled workers. In order to get the invitation to apply for the visa the skilled worker has to fulfil some mandatory requirements. One of the important criteria for this is getting nominated by a State or territory. It is necessary that for applying for the nomination the candidate selects an occupation from the Lists of eligible skilled occupations. While selecting the occupation the candidate must make sure that he has the required skills sets and qualifications. It is important that the candidate refers to the latest occupation list.

Updated lists announced at regular intervals:

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) has announced the Australia Occupation List July 2017. The Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) is for the  General Skilled migration visas. These are Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa), Subclass 489 (Skilled Regional Provisional Visa who is not nominated by a State or Territory government agency) and Subclass 485 (Graduate Temporary Visa) visa. The Short‑term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) is for Subclass 190 (Skilled—Nominated visa) or Subclass 489 (Skilled—Regional (Provisional) visa. The updated lists are announced after every 6 months. The list is prepared after taking into account the needs of the industry. The advice of Department of Employment and the Department of Education and Training is taken while preparing the list.

Some of the mandatory requirements:

It is important that the candidate has the required skills, qualifications and experience. If any additional skills are required, then the candidate needs to fulfil the same. If the candidate needs to complete any licensing or registration requirements, then he needs to complete the same. Police verification, moral certificate, health certificate etc are some of the mandatory requirements in most of the cases. It is also important that the applicant has proficiency in English language. The candidate needs to get his skills assessed from the skills assessing authorities. The different assessing bodies are VETASSESS, CPAA/ICAA /IPA, Engineers Australia/AIM,TRA,ANMAC,ACWA, ACS, SSSI, AIQS, AVBC, AIMS,AITSL, AIR, ANZSNM, OCANZ, APharmC, ADC,OTC,APC, APodC/ANZPAC,SPA, Medical Board of Australia, ANMAC,SLAA, NAATI,TRA etc..
